Yohei Takada

Dr. Takada has been extensively trained in manual/orthopedic/sports physical therapy. After graduating from a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Columbia University, he completed two-year process of Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy residency program at Touro College and received Certification in Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy (CAOPT). He passed a Certified Functional Manual Therapist ™ (CFMT) with distinction through The Institute of Physical Art in 2013. Dr. Takada is a board certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and a board certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS). He is also a certified full body Active Release Technique (ART) provider, certified golf fitness instructor (level III Medical Profession, level II junior program) by Titleist Performance Institute, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a certified Functional Movement Screen provider (FMS), a certified Selective Functional Movement Assessment provider (SFMA), as well as a certified Graston technique provider.

In his early career, Dr. Takada has been trained and worked in the prestigious teaching hospitals in the United States: Columbia University Medical Center and Monterfiore Medical Center. He has worked extensively with patients in outpatient settings including various levels of athletes/performing artists, and patients who are suffered from orthopedic and neurologic conditions. He also specialized in athletic enhancement and injury preventions.

Throughout his career, he has been actively involving teaching, including post-doctoral residents, students, as well as physical therapists in clinical settings. He is an affiliated teacher for Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy residency program at Touro College.


Qualifications

DPT, CFMT, OCS, SCS, CAOPT, CSCS

DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy)

Yohei Takada graduated from Shenandoah University in Virginia with Bachelor of Biology with highest academic achievement (Dean’s Award). Dr. Takada earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) with honor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.

CFMT (Certified Functional Manual Therapist ™)

Functional Manual Therapy approach was developed by Gregg and Vick Johnson, founders of the Institute of Physical Art (I.P.A.). This certification has one of the highest requirement in obtaining it in the physical therapy profession, requiring more than 200 hour of education and one-week process of certification examination. Among more than 200,000 licensed Physical Therapists in U.S., only 300 of them have achieved CFMT. Dr. Takada received this certification with distinction in 2013.

OCS (Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist) and SCS (Sports Clinical Specialist)

Dr. Takada is a board certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) as well as a board certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

There are only 8,532 physical therapists certified for OCS and only 1,226 physical therapists are certified in SCS. Therapists who earn both OCS and SCS are very rare and Dr. Takada is one of therapists who achieve this highest distinction.

CAOPT(Certification in Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy)

Dr. Takada completed the orthopedic and manual therapy residency program (OPTR) at Touro College. This clinical residency is intended as a program of post-professional clinical and didactic education for physical therapists and is designed to significantly advance the therapist’s preparation as a provider of patient care services in a defined area of clinical practice. It is designed to substantially advance a therapist’s expertise in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and management of patients in a defined area of clinical practice (specialty). Touro College OPTR consisted of 11 clinical courses, followed by 200 hours of clinical mentorship. Dr. Takada completed the clinical mentorship under Dean Hazama and Brad Gilden at IPA Manhattan.

CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)

CSCS is a certification from The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), which is the world leading membership organization for thousands of elite strength coaches, personal trainers, and dedicated researchers and educators. CSCS professionals apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. The CSCS certification is widely recognized as the esteemed credential for strength and conditioning professionals in the United States and increasingly around the world.

ART (Active Release Technique: Full body certification)

Active Release Technique (ART) has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Dr. Takada is certified as a full body ART provider, including lower extremity, upper extremity, spine, and nerve entrapment. He is also a provider for Ironman races.

TPI-CGFI MP III (Titleist Performance Institute-Certified Golf Fitness Instructor MP III)

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world’s leading educational organization and research facility dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. Dr. Takada has been recognized by the Titleist Performance Institute as a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and a Level 3 Medical Professional. Dr. Takada understands relationship between human body and golf swing in depth. His treatment and his training can enhance the performance of golfers of all ages and levels, injured or healthy. He has worked with golfers at various levels, including PGA professional golfers, college/high school golfers, and recreational golfers.

Functional Movement Screen provider (FMS), Selective Functional Movement Assessment provider provider (SFMA)

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is the product of an exercise philosophy known as Functional Movement Systems. FMS identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. With FMS the therapist is able to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

Grason Technique provider

Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.
